Photography FAQs
How do I go about finding a photo for a piece?
There is a drive where you can find photos on different topics, particularly photos of Durham. Before you select a photo, please check the website to see if it has been used lots before; we want to ensure there is variation in the photos published.
Please try and avoid reusing photos, if you need a new photograph taken do let us know and we will get this sorted for you.
Photography editors need 4 days notice for photograph commissions.
What if I can’t find the photo I’m looking for?
Speak to your section editor (at least 4 days in advance of when you will need the photo) and they can organise getting a new photo taken for you.
I need photographs for a specific event, what should I do?
If you need photographs taken for a specific event, please let us know in advance and we can organise getting a photographer to cover the event. You will need to speak to the photographer editor in charge of your section to inform them of your specific needs.
What information do I need to give to the photography editor when commissioning a photograph?
Where? What is it (if you have this specific info) that you want an image of?
What is the premise/angle of the article? What is its tone? This will inform the contributors’ photographs i.e. the colours, composition, editing etc.
I am having problems with thinking of what I need a photograph of/which photograph to use... can you help me?
Feel free to work with us to get a better idea of what it is you want the photograph to capture, if you aren’t sure. We are happy to read headlines and even the full article to get a better idea of what you are looking for, just get in touch!
